Constructora Meco, S.A. presented a proposal for $228.4 million, lower than the other participant's offer, the I&C Campana consortium, which was $265.3 million. The project involves expanding an 18.6-kilometer highway to six lanes up to the end of the well-known Loma Campana. The reference price set by the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) was $250 million. It also includes the construction of a viaduct in Campana, with toll-based circulation. The original project envisioned the corridor reaching Santa Cruz, a 32.6-kilometer route, but it was later reduced to 6 kilometers. This is one of the projects on the list that the MOP must begin executing this year as part of the goal of generating over 30,000 jobs nationwide, 10,000 direct and 20,000 indirect jobs. Constructora Meco, S.A. will be the company in charge of building the extension of the Corridor of the Beaches and the viaduct over Campana. The work should be starting in March, as promised by the Minister of Public Works (MOP), José Luis Andrade. Part One After the company FCC Construcción left the country, Puentes y Calzadas Infraestructuras S.L.U. took over the completion of this work. Agreed at $603.2 million, the corridor finally cost $282.1 million. Its 1.8-kilometer viaduct was opened in September 2024 after six years of work. On December 23 of last year, the evaluation committee of the public act delivered its report, awarding the highest score to Meco, with no observations or complaints received. The expansion implies widening the Pan-American highway from four to six lanes, applying modified asphalt, relocating public services, extending drainage structures, expanding existing bridges, and acquiring road easements.
