At the Internado Nacional Barros Arana (INBA) in Santiago, Chile, thirteen episodes of high-profile violence were reported last year, along with three incidents so far this year. Health Minister Nicolás Cataldo stated that the students injured in an explosion at the school not only suffered skin burns and respiratory damage, but many of them remain in critical condition.
The explosion occurred when a group of students were in a bathroom at the facility preparing to launch explosive devices in public. Although the exact circumstances that triggered the incident are still unknown, the outcome was several injuries, including two who remain in a state of 'extreme gravity'.
According to the Ministry of Health, of the 35 affected by the explosion, 23 remain hospitalized. Fortunately, no student has died as a result of this tragic event. Despite the school's principal, María Alejandra Benavides, stating that it was an isolated incident, Minister Cataldo dismissed this assertion, emphasizing the seriousness of what occurred.
In light of this situation, Cataldo announced that twelve young people were discharged today, although concern remains due to the critical condition of several students. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to clarify what happened and determine the corresponding responsibilities.
