The Investigative Police (PDI) detained Frederik Landabur, an executive of the foundation Chile Diverso and a member of the Socialist Party (PS), after a report of possessing child pornography. The investigation began after the Ex Prison Cultural Park of Valparaíso received an email containing child abuse material, sent from the foundation's institutional account.
The incident was reported on January 31 by the president of the cultural park, Gianina Figueroa, who alerted the Sexual Crimes Investigation Brigade (Brisex) of the PDI. Hours after the complaint, Landabur was arrested and transferred to a detention facility following the detention control carried out on Saturday. The Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the formalization hearing will take place next Tuesday and that the case remains confidential due to ongoing proceedings.
The Ex Prison Cultural Park of Valparaíso expressed its rejection of the reported facts and reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of children and adolescents. Through a statement, they categorically condemned any action that violates the rights of children and adolescents and expressed their trust in the investigation by the Public Ministry.
In addition to his role in Chile Diverso, Landabur is a member of the PS and a former candidate for metropolitan regional councilor. In light of the seriousness of the accusation, the party's Supreme Tribunal decided to suspend his membership and charge him for violating the statutes, the Code of Ethics, and the Declaration of Principles of the PS. The party stated in a statement that they will not tolerate individuals who violate the rights of children and adolescents and reaffirmed their commitment to investigating and sanctioning any crime involving their members.
The Prosecutor's Office and the PDI continue to collect evidence in the case, and the results of the formalization hearing are awaited. If Landabur's responsibility is confirmed, he could face severe penalties according to current legislation for crimes of this nature.
