Viña del Mar International Song Festival Kicks Off

The Viña del Mar International Song Festival begins its 64th edition, featuring artists like Marc Anthony and Sebastián Yatra. Expect a mix of music and comedy through six days of vibrant performances.

The International Song Festival of Viña del Mar in Chile has started its 64th edition, presenting a broad program that combines comedy and music. On opening night, Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Marc Anthony headlined the event, which will also feature prominent artists such as Sebastián Yatra from Colombia and Duki from Argentina.

Over six days, from February 23 to 28, the festival will take place at the iconic amphitheater of Quinta Vergara and will host international artists like Ha*Ash and Incubus from the United States, as well as local artists like Myriam Hernández and Kidd Voodoo.

The program also includes Chilean comedians from the new generation, among them Edo Caroe, Daniela ‘Chiqui’ Aguayo, Pedro Ruminot, Juan Pablo López, and Pam Pam. Venezuelan comedian George Harris will be part of the opening day alongside the concerts of Marc Anthony and the band Bacilos.

Regarding the competitions of folk and international music, artists from various countries will present, such as Nía from Spain, Cecille from Italy, Kakalo from Mexico, and Gerónimo Sims from Bolivia. The selected song to represent Chile, 'Infernodaga', performed by Dani Ride, has generated controversy for its content and has been criticized by conservative sectors.

This edition of the festival aims to highlight musical and folk competitions, which have gained special relevance. The author of Chile's song has drawn from his personal experience in revealing his sexual orientation, including a message of diversity and freedom. Despite the controversy, the festival's organization has shown respect for the decision to include the song in the competition.

The event has introduced a new stage with cutting-edge technology that promises an immersive visual experience for the 15,000 daily spectators and for television viewers. Additionally, a 'calm room' has been implemented for neurodivergent individuals as a permanent novelty for the residents of Viña del Mar.

The Viña del Mar Festival begins with high expectations, with most nights sold out in terms of tickets. The festival inaugurates this edition with renowned artistic collaborations and an innovative proposal regarding staging and technology.
