According to the information provided, 99.7% of fires are caused by humans and not by natural causes, especially in the region where this situation was reported. The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) has issued a red alert for Viña del Mar due to a forest fire in the Lajarilla area. So far, approximately two hectares have been affected by the flames, which exhibit extreme behavior and pose a danger to inhabited areas and critical infrastructure.
Authorities have assured that the alert will remain active until conditions are deemed appropriate for its lifting. In addition to Viña del Mar, Senapred has extended the alert to the communes of Quilpué and Villa Alemana, located in the Valparaíso region, 120 kilometers west of Santiago, Chile. Evacuation has been requested for areas such as Fundo Los Molles, Los Perales, Tranque Los Molles, La Retuca, and Medialuna, where around 130 hectares have been affected by the fire.
The regional director of the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) of Valparaíso, Mauricio Núñez, has described these fires as "suspicious" and has hinted that they may have been intentionally set. In light of this situation, prompt attention and action are crucial to prevent further advance of the flames and to protect the population and infrastructure in the area.
