The Chile national team defeated Venezuela 2-1 in their first match of the South American U-20 Championship. The match took place at the Metropolitano Stadium in Lara, where "La Roja" achieved an important victory in Group A, which also includes Paraguay, Uruguay, Peru, and the Venezuelan national team.
The match started with few clear opportunities for both teams. However, in the 34th minute, Juan Francisco Rossel opened the scoring for Chile after taking advantage of a rebound in the box and sending the ball to the back of the net. Six minutes later, Rossel, assisted by a cross from Agustín Arce, doubled the lead for Chile.
In the second half, Venezuela managed to close the gap with a spectacular goal from Kevin Andrade from outside the box in the 50th minute. Despite "Vinotinto's" attempts to equalize the match, Chilean goalkeeper Ignacio Sáez made key interventions to maintain his team's victory.
In the next round, Chile will face Uruguay, while Venezuela will play against Peru. These matches will take place next Saturday, with the first at 18:00 (Argentina time) and the second at 20:30 (Argentina time).
