Top 10 Universities in Latin America Revealed

Times Higher Education presented its 2024 ranking of the best universities in Latin America. Brazil leads with 5 universities, followed by Chile with the Pontifical Catholic University. This evaluation is based on 18 key indicators.


Top 10 Universities in Latin America Revealed

The Times Higher Education (THE) published its list of the top 10 universities in Latin America in the 2024 edition of the Latin America University Rankings. For this evaluation, THE ranked 214 institutions from 16 countries based on the WUR 3.0 methodology, considered the most comprehensive assessment of university performance worldwide.

According to THE, the 2024 Latin American University Rankings are based on 18 indicators that evaluate five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook. This methodology takes into account 157 million citations, 18 million research publications, and survey responses from over 93,000 academics worldwide.

In the list of the best universities in Latin America, the top six positions are held by five institutions from Brazil and one from Chile. Among them are the University of São Paulo, the University of Campinas, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, the São Paulo State University (Unesp), and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro.

Two Mexican universities made it to the ranking. The Monterrey Institute of Technology ranked seventh, while the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) reached the 15th position.
