In January 2025, the mining sector showed signs of growth in several aspects. Crude oil and natural gas extraction, along with support services, experienced a year-on-year increase of 1.8%. Specifically, crude oil extraction stood out with growth of 11.6% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Conventional natural gas production reached 1,653.0 million m³, with an increase of 8.1%, while unconventional natural gas rose to 2,641.5 million m³, reflecting an increase of 14.4%. Furthermore, lithium carbonate production in the mining sector showed significant growth, reaching 7,793.1 tons in January 2025, representing an increase of 92.7% compared to the previous year.

However, industrial fishing production experienced a decline of 3.3% year-on-year in January 2025. Conventional crude oil extraction decreased by 4.6%, totaling 1,499.2 thousand m³, while unconventional crude oil increased by 26.4%, reaching 2,185.0 thousand m³. Regarding natural gas, an 11.9% growth was recorded in year-on-year terms.

The Mining Industrial Production Index (IPI mining) showed a growth of 3.1% in January 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year. The seasonally adjusted and trend-cycle series of the Fishing Industrial Production Index (IPI fishing) revealed positive variations of 9.3% and 2.4% respectively compared to December 2024. Due to the seasonal nature of the fishing sector, these figures are expected to be revised as new data becomes available. In light of this outlook, specialists advise analyzing both series together for a more reliable short-term assessment of the sector.
