The LATAM Cargo brand was recognized for its outstanding emissions compensation program, receiving a special mention at the Air Cargo News Awards. This recognition is due to its initiative "1+1: Compensate to Conserve," which invites its cargo customers to collaboratively offset the emissions of their shipments. LATAM Cargo Group thus became the only South American cargo airline awarded in the "Air Cargo Environment Award" category.
In 2021, LATAM Airlines Group launched its sustainability strategy, including this emissions compensation program, which marked a milestone as the first airline group to implement this collaborative methodology. Under this program, they invite corporate clients to offset 50% of their emissions while LATAM handles the other 50% through conservation projects in South America.
Cristina Oñate, VP of Sustainability and Product of LATAM Cargo Group, expressed her pride in the recognition, highlighting the importance of continuing to advance towards the decarbonization of the industry. This award evidences the brand's commitment to implementing initiatives that have a positive impact on the sector and contribute to the protection of ecosystems in South America.
In the last edition of the Air Cargo News Awards, nine categories were opened, including one devoted to sustainability in the air cargo industry, where LATAM Cargo Group stood out. This recognition reaffirms the company's commitment to environmental protection and its leadership in adopting more sustainable practices within the sector.
