The family of missing activist Julia Chuñil Catricura in Chile was subjected to a massive and violent police operation. In a raid involving 500 officers, three of her children, her son-in-law, and two minor grandchildren were detained. This action starkly contrasts with the minimal efforts made over the past 14 months to find Julia herself. The family and human rights groups claim this is an attempt to frame them, diverting attention from the real suspect, businessman Juan Carlos Morstadt, whom they accuse of Julia's disappearance. Authorities, they allege, are pursuing a biased investigation that criminalizes the Mapuche people while ignoring evidence against Morstadt, including an intercepted phone call where he allegedly confessed to burning her body. The Coordinator for Julia Chuñil denounces these actions and demands the immediate release of her family and a fair investigation.
