Chilean far-right politician Jose Antonio Kast was sworn in as president of the country on Wednesday, following his victory in elections dominated by an increase in violent crimes and rising migration rates. Kast, 60, who has not hidden his admiration for former dictator Augusto Pinochet, achieved a landslide victory. Upon his election, he appointed former Pinochet lawyers to head the ministries of defense and human rights. In doing so, Kast succeeds the leftist president Gabriel Boric.
