A young Venezuelan named Adrián Simancas was surprised by a humpback whale while practicing packrafting in the Strait of Magellan with his father. The man was recording his son when suddenly a whale emerged from the water and swallowed him.
Adrián Simancas recounted that, at that moment, he thought he was dead as he was being swallowed by the enormous marine mammal. However, within seconds, the whale expelled him, leaving him unharmed but with a terrifying experience.
Despite the father and son having safety measures such as GPS, satellite messaging, and protective gear, they could not avoid the unexpected encounter with the humpback whale. Marine wildlife specialists explained that these animals typically feed by opening their mouths at the surface to swallow plankton and small fish, unaware of humans as prey.
Simancas described the feeling of being sucked in by the whale as a sudden and strong blow from behind, causing confusion and fear in the young man. After being expelled, the boy felt relief and fear at the same time, fearing a second attack from the marine mammal.
