
Chilean artist Mon Laferte recently revealed in an open letter that she suffered sexual abuse at the age of 7. In this account, she shared her feelings and reflected on events that have left a mark on her life, becoming a fundamental element of her art.
In the letter shared on her social platforms, Mon Laferte said: “I was raped at 7 years old, at 11 I started drinking, smoking cigarettes, and using marijuana, I tried crack cocaine at 13.” She also revealed that from the ages of 13 to 18 she suffered abuse by a man 20 years older than her.
Throughout different artistic projects, Laferte has addressed issues of abuse and gender violence, making them an essential part of her work. This revelation has generated a strong impact among her followers, who highlight her bravery in sharing her experience.
After an operation, Mon Laferte experienced facial paralysis that prevented her from moving the right side of her body for two months. The artist concluded her letter emphasizing that art has been fundamental in managing her complex personal history.
Additionally, Laferte mentioned that she suffered from thyroid cancer and underwent surgery in a public hospital.
