Luis Ignacio Vásquez Villenas, known as "Lucho Plátano", is a Chilean serial killer who began his career as a car thief and later committed murders, including that of Commissioner Daniel Valdés Donoso of the Chilean Investigative Police (PDI). Born on May 5, 2002, in Santiago, Vásquez Villenas carried out his crimes in the Metropolitan Region of the Chilean capital between May 2022 and January 2023, when he was between 20 and 21 years old, becoming a fugitive sought by the authorities.
As the leader of a gang, he recruited minors to assist him in stealing parked vehicles at the entrances of homes. He became well-known in his community and was seen as a role model by other criminals. One of his crimes occurred on May 24, 2022, when he and his gang attempted to steal the car of Matías Ortega Yáñez, resulting in a shootout where one person was injured and another killed.
Subsequently, Vásquez Villenas committed other homicides, including the murder of Commissioner Valdés Donoso in January 2023. After an exchange of gunfire, the criminal took the life of the commissioner. During the following weeks, he remained hidden in his partner's apartment in the San Ramón community, trying to sell the weapon of the murdered officer. Finally, after 22 days in hiding, he was captured by the PDI.
Currently, Vásquez Villenas is in prison in the high-security module of Rancagua Prison, facing charges for various crimes, including theft, attempted and completed homicides. His personal driver and partner were also arrested for helping him evade authorities.
