Safety Alert for Belkin Chargers in Chile

The National Consumer Service of Chile (SERNAC) issued a safety alert directed at a specific model of wireless charger and battery manufactured by Belkin, which poses a risk to consumers. The agency warns that there is a possibility of fires, fire damage, and property harm as a consequence.

According to information provided by the company, the fault affects Belkin's Boost Charge Pro fast wireless chargers, model BPD005, designed to charge iPhone, Apple Watch, and other devices via USB-C, as well as functioning as a power bank. SERNAC explained that due to a manufacturing defect, under certain circumstances, the lithium-ion component of the charger may overheat.

Although no incidents have been reported in Chile, globally there have been 12 cases in countries such as Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China, and Turkey. Therefore, users are advised to suspend the use of the device immediately. The company offers the option to request a refund or store credit by completing a form available online.

The portable battery in question is a fast wireless charger designed for Apple Watch, AirPods Pro (second generation), and iPhone. It offers fast wireless and wired charging, with protection against overcharging and a capacity of up to 36 hours of video playback on an iPhone 14 Pro. Its compact and lightweight design makes it ideal for carrying anywhere, allowing simultaneous charging of the Apple Watch and the power bank.

Belkin International Inc. has issued an international alert urging users to stop using this model of charger. The device is priced around 100 USD, and it is recommended to follow the manufacturer's instructions to arrange the return or refund of the defective product.
