Buenos Aires, December 15 (NA) -- Chile's elected president, José Antonio Kast, stated on Monday that his future government, which will take office on March 11, 2026, will be one of 'emergency' and will seek to express national unity on priority issues. This was learned by the Argentine News Agency (NA) after his meeting with current President Gabriel Boric at the La Moneda Palace. 'This emergency government must be reflected in a government of national unity on priority issues,' Kast stated after the meeting with Boric, which he described as 'very positive and republican.' Security, health, and education as the axes of the new government Kast pointed out that there are cross-cutting issues affecting all of Chilean society that require state policies, including security, health, education, and housing. 'From that moment on, a formal dialogue can begin,' he indicated. Kast will govern Chile during the 2026-2030 period, after winning the runoff election against the left-wing candidate Jeannette Jara with 58.16% of the votes, according to the latest bulletin from the Chilean Electoral Service. This was the first election with compulsory voting since the return to democracy. In this way, he will become the second right-wing president since 1990, after Sebastián Piñera. In his first speech as president-elect, Kast affirmed that the country needs 'order' and promised to 'restore respect for the law throughout the territory.' 'These are situations that affect all of us and that require structural solutions,' he stated. Regarding the transition, the elected president highlighted the current president's willingness to cooperate and explained that the dialogue will be deepened once the members of the next cabinet are defined.
